Steal this photo - NOT!

Although I've put these photos and words on the web, this does not mean I've waived my copyright. Copyright protections are guaranteed by Federal Law (phew, that was intimidating, wasn't it?). Commercial use of these images is forbidden without licensing of rights.

Now that we've cleared that up, there are certain conditions under which I give individuals permission to link to, or copy, JPEG files containing images for no charge.

You may make links to the images on pages you maintain for yourself for personal non-commercial use. Students can download images and incorporate them into school reports, presentations, etc for free and without my further permission.

I especially encourage other folks who are interested in preparing FREE online site-guides for other photographers, birders and naturalists to make use of, with attributions, these images.

You may also download images for your personal use in a screen-saver, as the root image for your X-terminal, and for similar use.

All other use is prohibited without the express, written consent of the author and photographer (that's me). You can e-mail me, or write me at:

Don Baccus 4835 SE Sherman Portland, Oregon 97215

If you qualify for free web use as described above, you must properly attribute copyright to me, and include my e-mail address. An easy way to do this is to open the html file associated with an image on my server and to download it to your page - each image has an associated .html file which includes caption and copyright notice. The URL addresses given in these .html files must be prepended with "http://donb.photo.net" in order to work remotely.

For example, inspecting the source for the first page of "Springtime in Malheur Country!" makes it clear that the burrowing owl image, in large size, can be found at "http://donb.photo.net/photo_cd/a/b78.jpg"

In this directory there is also a file named b78.html which contains copyright and caption. I recommend you use this directly - the "save" command of your browser makes this easy.

While I don't ask for payment for the uses outlined above, I do sell high-quality prints which I make from 4"x5" internegatives made from 35mm slides, or directly from medium-format negatives and slides. Write me at the above address, or e-mail me for information on price and availability.

Enjoy!
