The Accuser of the Brethren

So, who exactly IS the "Accuser of the Brethren"?...

The expression comes from the book of "Revelation"
- also known as

In chapter 12 starting from verse seven, we can read (from the Authorised Version) the following...

Now this is very serious stuff as I see it.

Here we have two ordained ministers of the Word, pastors Andrew Evans and Paul Newsham, national leaders of the Assemblies of God in Australia, as well as senior ministers in their own churches, who have used biblical language to say unequivocally that another ordained minister who was their colleague in the national Executive of the Assemblies of God in Australia is none other than Satan, the Devil, the Father of Lies.

Another passage in the bible points out that even the angels do not make accusations about and to the devil, the actual wording they use is described as "The Lord rebuke thee".

So our two AoG pastors are higher than the angels in this life? For them to dare to say what they did, they would have to believe this.

Their denomination now accepts - at the instruction of Andrew Evans - the erroneous teachings of Benny Hinn (and others) who all collectively teach that indeed you are a little god yourself, amongst a range of other heresies.

If that is the case, little wonder then why they are so upset at Philip Powell trying his hardest to expose the heresy into which these two pastors (and others) have led the members of the Assemblies of God in Australia.

Many people erroneously believe that the Assemblies of God and the Christian Revival Crusade (aka Elim in the UK and Europe) are the same Pentecostal denominations that they were decades ago.

Not so at all.

Indeed there is very little teaching that in either that bears much resemblance to those of the great Pentecostal revivals a hundred years or so ago.

Sadly none of the mainline churches teach their aspiring ministers anything about church history that's any later than the Reformation. They are almost all totally ignorant of what happened in the last two centuries. Sad, but very factually true, unfortunately.

Dr Barry Chant has written a brilliant book, reprinted a number of times, called "Heart of Fire", which traces Pentecostalism's history in Australia.

Barry founded Australia's first independent Charismatic teaching institution - The House of Tabor - some years ago. Unfortunately that independence has now been lost.

How? The annual Charismatic Conventions are now hosted on his behalf by the Assemblies of God. And AoG National Executive member (Pastor) Andrew Evans wrote the Foreword to the latest (1997) edition.

I believe I can see why there is absolutely no mention in this latest edition of the "Word of Faith" movement, its heretical teachings, and its infiltration into not just Australian pentecostalism, but also every denomination of any size through the three key areas of Music, Youth, and Bible Studies.

We note, with interest, the excursion of both Paul Newsham and Andrew Evans into the political arena now, with the "Family First" Political Party, formed expressly for the 2002 State Elections in South Australia.

One does not have to be a brain surgeon to see where their aspirations are now leading.
